The Time Has Come... Jul. 24th, 2006 @ 12:15 am
I try not to post on here without something to show... photos, artwork... SOMETHING... but there is nothing right now. Camera batteries are charging and I've been too busy to scan and such.
Orin is a fatty fat boy, weighing in at about 18 pounds and trying to crawl, mostly, he shoves his face into the ground, but he's getting closer.
Everything else is pretty status quo here, but it's been way too long since my last post, I was beginning to feel guilty.

We got our kitten spayed this weekend, so she's been looking exceptionally pathetic with her middle wrapped in a bandage. She seems to be doing just fine, though.

Other than that, I force myself out of the house every now and then so that I don't brood myself into a mental disorder.

Yeah... that's my life... pretty exciting these days, huh?

Now aren't you all glad I don't post daily???

Heh.

I've accidentally run across a website called 43things. It's kind of a to-do list where you post the 43 things you want to do and post your progress on them... So, naturally, I spent more time today doing the stupid list than actually doing anything ON the list, but it entertained me.

http://www.43things.com/person/cherryarachnid

One of the things on my list was to re-organize my studio, which has become a mess since I've been working at home all day, as the following pics will show:

Yes, there is a kitty and baby in there.

Speaking of baby....

I'm still waiting on the last of my yarn to finish the last sleeve of my sweater, it was supposed to come UPS today, but, as usual, UPS couldn't get into our building and didn't call my cell... Getting packages in our building is sooooo frustrating!!

Set Phasers to bid!! May. 21st, 2006 @ 10:20 pm
So today marks an historic point in the history of my time here in the big city... I have lived here for one year, one month and 20 days and have seen my first used hypodermic needle lying in the street.

In other news, Paramount Studios, owner of Star Trek and 4 warehouses full of Star Trek props and other goodies will be auctioning off much of their treasured items later this fall after a world tour of said treasures. It'll be on display here in the city from Sept 30-Oct 4, whereafter, it will be hidden forever in bad Sci-Fi themed cafes and geeky 30 year-olds' basements.

Am I going to go check it out?? OF COURSE!

Next, I have plugged my scanner back in after temporarily retiring it because my kitten kept stepping on the buttons while I was working and randomly scanning the blank lid. Of course, there's no cancelling this action, so I would have to sit back and wait while it scanned and opened in Photoshop. Because of this, though, I have piles of things that I've wanted to scan, but have been pushed aside for a rainy day... and as those of you in the city know, it's been an awfully rainy week!

Sooo.. tomorrow I may post some junk out of my sketchbook (I was going to post some tonight, but it got too late, and as soon as I pulled my sketchbook out, I started doodling and forgot all about scanning).

Yeah, I know, I'm kind of a pile... but that's the way Sundays are for me lately. It's the only day I get off anymore, so I tend to take advantage of them by being as lazy as possible.

Finally an Update! Image Heavy... May. 12th, 2006 @ 10:22 am
Okay, okay... so I realized that the last post on here was over a month ago, so I figured I should get my act in gear.

The sweater that I am working on and promised to show updates of is nearly complete. The back and front are finished and I am now working on the first sleeve. I took a bunch of photos this morning and forgot to get photos of this, of course.

Of course, this means I'm already checking out my next project. I've got an outfit that I'm planning and have purchased a few balls of yarn to start out with. This is a crochet outfit, so no big learning steps here, as I've been crocheting much MUCH longer than knitting, but in thinking back yesterday, I realized that of all the years I've been crocheting, I've never made anything that I could wear myself.

For a new knitting project (so I don't forget how) I'm thinking about this skirt. The pattern has three different lengths, but these are the two I'm thinking about. I haven't decided on a color/colors just yet.

I may go with the shorter, as it will be faster and cheaper to make... but I kind of like the way the longer one falls... any opinions??

I've recently started a hintbug account. For those of you who don't know what this is, it's like any website wishlist, but you can link to ANYTHING you want ANYWHERE on the web. So if anybody feels the need to buy me anything... here ya go! (I won't keep my fingers crossed, but one can wish, right?)

Since I've been working at home, you would think I'd have lots of time to get everything done, like, I don't know, laundry, dishes and what not, but as you can tell, I'm spending most of my day at the computer and very little time in any other rooms of the house. Except of course whn I have to change a diaper... which brings us to the Orin picture of the day:

Even when he's giving me this disinterested look, the cranky boy is still cute.

Okay, I had more to say, but the boy is crying and this post is getting long...

The End.

Okay, so I've finally gotten back in here to update. I'm going back to work.... yaay! I'm not physically going back to work, I'll be doing web-based stuff from home, so even better! All the money from work, all the comforts of home.

I finally got my yarn for my Bamff sweater in the mail the other day and have begun stitching like crazy... here's the work in progress... I'm at about 10 rows in these pictures, I'm almost to 20 now, but the pattern hasn't changed yet, so just visualize these twice as long.

This is a closeup, you can start to see the ribbing (if you look really close, I know the yarn is a bit "chunky") This is the ribbing around the bottom of the back. I have about 20 rows of this to go before I start on the main part of the back. So far so good, though.. no major blunders, although the consistancy of the yarn may be hiding any mistakes.

Here's a picture of Orin flying. You have to picture the Superman theme song when you look at this, as E sings it everytime he plays the flying game with him.

Okay, and one more of the Lena with her head laying in Orin's hand. She kept scooting closer and closer to him and finally laid her head down in his hand.

I've got some drawings and other stuff I was planning to post, but thought I would wait... today's awfully image heavy.
» See, he does smile!
Well, I've finally got a photo of Orin smiling, and E as well, in photos, his are almost as rare!

I spent the morning job searching and the afternoon walking around Brooklyn. Orin just sat in his carrier staring at me... not smiling or crying, just staring at me, it was a little unsettling.
» so far so good...
Well two posts in two days, I'd be proud of myself if I'd accomplished anything else today. I did manage to transfer this photo from last night onto the computer.

After a busy day of working and spitting up (I'll let you guess who was doing which), both boys crashed while I was in the other room.

I was supposed to go to the post office this afternoon, but I couldn't make myself go out, even though it was in the seventies today.

I did pay some bills today, ordered groceries and did the dishes, so I suppose that's something. I know, I know... my life reeks of excitement these days.
» Something New
Okay, so I haven't been very good about using this and I think nearly everyone who ever looked at my LJ (all of maybe 2 people) have probably abandonned all hope that I would ever post again.

So I've decided to use this as an easy way to let everyone know what I'm up to and post pictures so that I don't have to email everyone all the time. I know, I know... it seems a bit lazy, but when my spare time comes in minutes, I have to use them economically.

Anyway, first things first, If you're related to me in any way, I know this is what you're here to see:

This is Orin Antonio Arana, born Feb 1,2006 at 12:39pm, he was 7lbs, 7.5oz. In this picture, he's 5 weeks old. In the past few days, he's started smiling, which brings his number of tricks to 5 (sleeping, eating, pooping, crying and smiling).

Since he's been born, I've been at staying at home. I hope someday to have a paycheck again. My boss is working on it... so he says. Within another week or 2, I should be doing internet maintanance for our store site, http:\\www.newyorkcostumes.com . Erik is still there full time. He's been writing articles for some websites in his free time (what little there is of that).

While I'm home, I'm trying to learn to knit. My mom has patiently shown me the basics.... you know... knit, purl... uh take it all out and start over. I've been working up the courage and have finally decided to actually start a project, in the form of a sweater, I figure this way I'll have nearly a year to finish it before winter hits again.

I'll be making it in this yarn:

I'll post my progress... heh heh.

Other than that, I've been mostly taking care of house and baby. Over the next few days I'll be concentrating on taxes... bleh... and bringing some order to the chaos that has been my filing system for the past few months (by filing, I mean stacking things on top of the filing cabinet).

All right... I think that ends the excitement for today! Check back in, hopefully I'll be able to update someday soon!

The end.
